When I first started going to Walt Disney World, I’d blow a lot of money on souvenirs. I’ve slowed the spending a bit, but I still have one serious weakness: Disney watches.

So when I checked out the Disney Parks Blog the other day and saw an entry all about Mickey watches, I was all over it.

Every trip I make at least one stop in to the watch shop on Main Street USA and the watch counter at Mouse Gear at Epcot. I’m a fan of the more substantial watches – heavy, metal and large. My collection is still rather small, but it has a few that I really like.

Upper left: I got that one on a press trip for the opening of Expedition Everest.
Top center: This is the first one I ever bought. I got it at the watch shop on Main Street. It’s really solid and I wear it a lot.
Top right: I have no idea where this came from. I think it might be one of those “spend more than $40 and get the watch for $15″ things. I think Amy knows. I’ll check with her and update when I find out.

Lower left: This watch came with three different bands. I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it.
Lower center: This is one of those “buy this and get the watch for $15″ deals, but I got it at Saratoga Springs Resort – our home DVC resort.
Lower right: This is one of my favorites. When I got the Walt/Mickey watch, I was torn between that and this green one. I ended up going back a few months later and getting the green one anyway.

I’m heading back next week, and considering the Disney railroad pocket watch.

The watches detailed in the Disney Parks Blog entry look nice enough, but like I said, I like big, heavy watches. Like, big enough where you could use it to break two-by-fours in karate class. I think they look better on my stubby arms.

Here are the ones I liked, in particular, from the blog posting:

I think I like the white one on the left. However, I wonder what that watch would look l ike with a dark band, like the one on the right? I’m not nuts about the white band with the two black stripes.

I guess I’ll hold out hope that there some giant metal thing waiting for me on Main Street. I tend not to look online to see what’s available. I like to be surprised when I get there.

Do you collect watches? Show ‘em off!
