I have yet to take the plunge and get in-on the limited edition ear hats, but the temptation is getting hard to resist.
Honestly, I just don’t know where I’d put them. Wait… I lie.
As I was typing that sentence I looked up and realized that the top of my desk is screaming to be decorated with limited edition ear hats.
Here’s a look at some of the limited edition collectible ear hats Disney has released:
The Disney Parks Blog this week showed off the Walt Disney World 40th Anniversary Ear Hat. Like the other limited, collectible hats, it comes packaged in a deluxe, satin lined hat box.
That’s a nice one. But my favorite, still, is the Alice in Wonderland hat:
The hat and the hatbox are both incredible. I love the keyhole in the front of the hat, the card in the brim, the checkerboard design, the colors, the artwork on the ears… I love everything about it. If I could get my hands on one of these, I’d probably grab one. I actually saw one when I was in Walt Disney World, but I held off. Mistake.
The Disney Parks Blog got me looking around at other limited ear hats that have been offered:
According to Disneyland merchandising: “(It) replicates the shape, logo and fabrication of the original Mickey Mouse Club ear hat that was featured on the show in 1955. It even comes with a limited edition woven label inside the hat, as well as a matching hangtag and comes complete in a collectible vintage hat box with velvet lining.”
Then there’s the Vinylmation set:
I’m not so crazy about the Vinylmation series. I do think it captures the feel of Vinylmation, and adding the collectible figurines onto the front of the hatbox is pretty cool, but I just think it lacks the detail that draws me to, say, the Alice in Wonderland hat.
From the synergy file, comes the Tron hat:
I haven’t seen the film yet, but I’m still more interested in park-related stuff.
Or cruise line stuff, as it were:
This one was released to commemorate the maiden voyage of the Disney Dream. There’s another one I’d probably like to pick up at some point. The problem being – these are all limited (thus the title “limited edition” ear hats, I guess.)
Which one do you like the best?

I love the 40th anniversary one. The box is cool, I love all that collage stuff they have for the anniversary. Atleast they aren’t turning Cinderella Castle into a cake this year…
But this up and coming trip (57 days! woo!) I’ll be buying a Mickey graduation cap to wear at my graduation!
I love the 40th anniversary one as well. I’m not into collecting the ear hats, but I love the 40th print and will be getting a Dooney & Bourke purse in the anniversary print. I’m also partial to the cruise line ears.
Thanks a lot…now I’m kicking myself about missing the Alice hat.
The Tron one is even cooler in person! I got two new sets of ears this year: the special Disney Princess Half Marathon ears and a very cool 40th anniversary beanie that is screenprinted with the same images that are on the hatbox for the limited edition ears, with a button that looks like a bottle cap with the D logo on the front. Of course, I like the Christmas ornament I bought more than the ears. It looks just like the 40th anniversary limited edition ears, just smaller and flocked ceramic. It wasn’t until I got it home and unwrapped it that I saw “535/1971″ written on the bottom. Somehow, I stumbled onto a limited edition item without knowing it!
