I’m not a big fan of the day after we get home from Walt Disney World.
Does that make sense?
We just got back from our latest trip to our favorite vacation destination yesterday. As much as I love going to WDW, it’s also kind of nice to get home and sleep in our own beds.
It’s the day after that I hate.
Of course I wish I was still in Florida and I can’t wait to go back, but like it or not, here I am.
And as of this moment, I’m not really liking it. I’d rather be running around a park (or loping at a rather slow gait, as it were) and eating at yet another great restaurant tonight. All that’s fine, however, because I know I’ll be back before too long. The part I don’t like is sitting here completely zonked out tired and getting used to not having our travel companions around. I barely have enough energy to make a letter appear on the screen when I touch the keyboard. Today is supposed to be a ‘catch up on errands’ day, but so far it’s a ‘I swear I’m more out of it than I was after the second margarita at Epcot the other day’ day.
It was yet another great trip though. And through the haze the just-made memories come in impressionistic images:
- Surprising Katie with the news that we were taking her to WDW for her birthday. (And learning that laying something like that on her little psyche actually overwhelms her a bit emotionally.)
- The Mousejunkie Meet on Friday. It was so much fun meeting people and putting faces and personalities to Facebook/online names. While we only had a little while to visit, I do feel like I know some of you – at least partially – and that’s great.
- Dinner at The Wave. Wow.
- Walking on Kilimanjaro Safari twice in a row and seeing animals closer than I ever have before. We had giraffes checking us out at very close range, and an ostrich pretty much poking its head into the truck.
- Shaving my beard off at the barber shop at the Magic Kingdom. I tend to go to extremes, and this one was a mistake, I think. The choice was between ‘scraggly homeless guy beard’ and ‘wow my face is huge.’ I should’ve stuck with the Tank Abbot beard.
- We had the best Movie Ride CM ever. She was enthusiastic, but not ‘Wonder Twins’ enthusiastic. She was great in her role.
- I guess you could say we’re into Vinylmation now. We brought home a lot more than I thought we would.
- Spending time with new Mousejunkie friends outside Raglan Road Saturday night. Again – it’s awesome to finally meet and talk to people you only previously knew online.
- OK, I have to mention this because moments like this remind me that I got to fulfill my lifelong dream thanks to friends new and old: Having people come up to me out of the blue and say, “Are you Bill?” People are unbelievably supportive, friendly, selfless, accommodating, giving, fun, and generally awesome.
I really, really need a nap. Or a pot of coffee. But I’ve got some stuff I really want to blog about, so if my writing seems really strange (stranger than normal,) please attribute it to the Disney hangover.

Sounds like you had a blast and you are very humble in thinking that you are not a noticable figure of the Disney landscape. I find your take on Disneyworld to be refreshing and hilarious. Keep up the good work and endless energy. I hope to make a mousejunkie get together one of these days!
My family feels the same way when we get back – great to be home on day 1 – then on to planning our next trip on day 2. We actually booked two weeks after we got back from our last trip this August. Keep up the good work Bill.
