Farewell Zazu? Adios Iago?
If we’re lucky.
Walt Disney World Imagineers today announced at the D23 event that The Enchanted Tiki Room (Under New Management) would be undergoing some changes. The attraction was damaged in a fire recently – an unfortunate but perhaps timely event providing the opportunity to excise the objectionable Iago and Zazu.
The Disney Parks blog described the planned changes as reshaping the attraction into “a version reminiscent of the original show.”
Excellent news! While I am a big fan of Rowan Atkinson, the voice of Zazu… Not so much with Iago.
Can you imagine it? Lines at the Tiki Room when it re-opens this summer? Actual lines?

If this means a return of the original song in its entirety, I am all for it. I love Fritz, Michael, Jose and especially Pierre.
I may be in the minority here, but I loved the addition of Zazu & Llago. While I loved the original Tiki Room attraction, I thought it was due for an overhaul when Zazu & Llago were brought on board. Walt believed and dreamed that WDW would never be done and their addition to the attraction was just a continuation of that dream. That plus the attraction was stuck in it’s 1960′s technology. We’re now in the 2nd decade of the 21st century hopefully the attraction, after this new overhaul, will reflect that but still keep its orginal charm.
This whole scenario makes me think about the “New Coke” fiasco of the 80′s. In the early 80′s, Coca-Cola announced that they were changing the formula of Coke. Shortly after, “New Coke” was thrust upon the people and most instantly hated it. “Why did they mess up something as classic as Coke?”, people were crying. After a few years, Coca-Cola announced that they had made a mistake and they brought back the original product as “Coke Classic”. Sounds familiar? BTW, New Coke tasted a lot like Pepsi.
Yay! I like the origional songs better.
