After a three-year run, the Kim Possible World Showcase Adventure is going to Pixie Dust Heaven with Mr. Toad, Tapestry of Nations and the Humpback of Notre Dame show. (Among many others.)
As Walt once said – and I’ll just paraphrase him here – the parks will always be changing and growing. Plussing, as it were.
So now Kim Possible is out, and Phineas and Ferb are on deck.
Phineas and Ferb’s World Showcase Adventure is due to take Kim Possible’s place this summer.
My reaction: Awesome. I love PnF. It’s a show Katie and I can watch together and laugh hysterically at it. Heck, even Reluctant Mousejunkie Amy loves it. The writing is super smart, the humor is sharp and edgy without being inappropriate and it’s incredibly inventive. I have very high hopes for the new “Agent P’s World Showcase Adventure.”
The change was hinted at recently in an interview Disney Parks chairman Tom Staggs gave to TravelWeekly.com. He was asked about including Disney Channel shows into park entertainment.
His reply, “We have an interactive experience based around Kim Possible in Epcot and will be converting it to one developed around Phineas and Ferb. It’s possible that we could see other attractions that are hard assets, but we do think about what their life cycle will be.”
The Hardest Working Man at Disney (copyright me, 2002) Charles Stovall put it this way in the Disney Parks Blog:
All the would-be secret agents out there will find a great new interactive experience at Epcot this year.
Coming this summer, Disney Phineas & Ferb: Agent P’s World Showcase Adventure is based on the wily secret-agent alter-ego of Perry the Platypus – faithful pet to the title characters from Disney’s animated series “Phineas & Ferb.” Although just a simple pet to Phineas and Ferb, Perry turns into Agent P in each episode to help stop the misguided plans of his nemesis, Dr. Doofenshmirtz.
Epcot guests will transform into secret agents to help Agent P thwart some of Dr. Doofenshmirtz’s most daring plots. Agents will use a “high-tech secret agent device” to receive clues for each case. Solving the clues will take agents to different places throughout seven World Showcase countries at Epcot – Mexico Pavilion, France Pavilion, Germany Pavilion, Norway Pavilion, Japan Pavilion, China Pavilion and the United Kingdom Pavilion. Agents will scour each country for clues, evil “Inators,” and – with a little bit of luck – help Agent P defeat Dr. Doofenshmirtz.
Everyone ready to don their fedoras and help Agent P? I can’t wait!
The Daily Disney at the Orlando Sentinel describes it this way:
“In the show, Perry is the pet of the title characters, and his alter ego is Agent P, who continually saves the world from the nefarious Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz. In the theme park, guests will become secret agents to help foil Doofenshmirtz using a “high-tech secret agent” device and clues found in Epcot’s Mexico, France, Germany, Norway, Japan, China and United Kingdom pavilions.”
It essentially sounds like a retrofit to the current Kim Possible experience. Still, I was never personally a fan of that show, and I adore PnF.
So what do you think? Everyone ready to take on innators of all types?
Bonus: Here’s one of my favorite episodes of Phineas and Ferb, “Hawaiian Vacation.”

Okay- I don’t care what the overlay is, but the adventures were a great addition to WS!
“You win a free sundae!”
Jud – totally agree. I’m just partial to PnF. Someone on FB mentioned a good point: Kim Possible was more of a “girl” experience, while PnF may appeal to boys and girls.
My hubby and I love PnF. Can’t wait to experience the adventure, but it’ll have to be next time.
It’s hard to say when comparing Kim Possible and Phineas and Ferb which one is “better,” because the former I’d consider an action series with elements of humor and drama (so the drama?) while P+F strikes me more as a comedy series with elements of action. I’m actually surprised that the World Showcast Adventure lasted for as long as it did as a Kim Possible (attraction? experience? game?) long after the show itself had ended. As for the changeover, I’ve gotta at least appreciate that 1) I got the chance to play the Kim Possible version at all and 2) that it’s only being thematically altered and not going away completely (I worried a bit that it would be spiritually “replaced” in another park by Sorcerer’s of the Magic Kingdom). A lot of the WDW travel books I’ve read seem to dismiss it as just something to give your kids to do, but as an adult I love the creativity and thought that went into making it. You can’t help but get a kick out the variety of all of the different interactivities, whether you’re a kid or a parent with one or more kids or even as an adult. Plus, it’s free and you don’t have to wait in any lines! So if updating the whole thing using a fresher series gets more people to try it out (and see how fun it is), all the better!
I wonder how many of the showcast challenge set pieces will be changed to accommodate the different characters? With most of them the storyline can just be remixed but I know there’s at least one mission that features a life-size physical “appearance” by a certain Kim Possible character. It’d be interesting to find out which Phineas and Ferb character would replace that one…
P&f is a good show and all but KP was always a show that everyone could rlate to and it taught me alot, like having courage and knowing that I can do anything if I set my mind to it. The show “avatar” on nickelodeon has a sequal show now and I think KP should have a sequel show too because it is a very funny, one-of-a-kind show with a well-written storyline. Also, the show has an interesting blend of humor and adventure. I think the ending of KP was rushed and disney channel should at least replay episodes for it but they never do. KP was the most popular animated series on Disney behind “House of Mouse.”. There are countless fans of KP to this day who all think KP deserves a sequel.
