Thursday night brought us to Raglan Road – my favorite restaurant in all of Walt Disney World. (Complete review to follow.)

Toward the end of the meal, the part where Ger’s Bread and Butter Pudding traditionally makes its appearance, Amy asked me a question that had only one obvious answer: “Do you want to split a dessert?”

Amy’s a smart girl. She was salutatorian of her class and regularly beats me at Jeopardy. So why she would ask such a silly question baffles me. I say it has one ‘obvious’ answer, but as we learned that night amidst the rollicking music, fantastic entertainment and the incredible atmosphere, there were several other ways to respond to Amy’s remarkably silly question.

Here, in order, are the answers I gave her:

  • “No.”
  • “No, get your own.”
  • “Maybe I could get him to cut it into seven pieces and we could all have a micro-sliver.”
  • “Wait…. I’ll ask the waiter if he’ll run across the room, flicking it at us as he jogs by.”
  • “I’ll get the waiter to whip it at us from the other side of the room, and whatever you catch in your mouth you can eat.”
  • “I know, see if the waiter will grab a piece of cake, smush it in his hands and punch me in the face with it.”

By now, Amy had that look on her face – the one that said she got my point, and she was no longer amused by my increasingly annoying answers.

Of course I split it with her. The Bread and Butter pudding at Raglan Road is monstrous, unbelievably rich and unmatched anywhere on Disney property – where bread pudding is evidently a staple. Besides, I had to drive home with her. I’m not crazy.

Patrick Kavanaugh, Katie, and Amy - who might convince you to split a dessert with you at some point.
